Arklay Region incident

Rebecca Chambers

On July 23 1998, Rebecca was sent to the Arklay Mountains on her first case to investigate a series of Cannibalism Homicide. During Bravo Team's search of the area, they discovered the wreckage of a Military police van, along with the corpses of the drivers and guards and documents of a prisoner, Billy Coen, that was being transported.

Upon further investigation of the area, Rebecca uncovered the Umbrella Corporation's secret company train, the Ecliptic Express. Within the train, Rebecca immediately encountered the passengers, who were already turned into zombies as a result of an earlier attack. Rebecca was able to fend for herself and met with the fugitive, Billy Coen. After witnessing the death of Bravo Team member Edward Dewey, as well as the appearance of mutated animals, Rebecca and Billy were forced to set aside any animosity and team up in order to survive. The train began to move again due to the manipulations of USFU operatives sent by Albert Wesker and William Birkin.

The train eventually arrived at Umbrella's top-secret training facility within the region. Rebecca and Billy assisted each other throughout, overcoming many of the facility's traps and obstacles, as well as many of the Bio-Organic Weapons that were being raised within the structure. These events were able to strengthen Rebecca's trust with Billy, to the point that she lied to her commanding officer Enrico Marini when he asked for Billy's whereabouts via radio.

Eventually, the two found themselves to a Tram car which led to another of Umbrella's underground labs. Although briefly separated, the two eventually regrouped and met with the true culprit behind the outbreak, James Marcus. Marcus was a founding member of Umbrella who was betrayed by his apprentices, but was revived after being consumed by his genetically-altered leeches that were infected with the "Progenitor Virus" . Marcus transformed into the Queen Leech, although he seemed impervious to firearms, Rebecca and Billy quickly discovered that Marcus was vulnerable to sunlight. Billy baited Marcus while Rebecca was opening the roof hatch, eventually exposing Marcus to the light of day and destroying him for good

Edward Dewey

On Bravo Team's flight over the Arklay region, Kevin Dooley served as the team's pilot instead, while Edward assisted him as a flight navigator. After the team experienced an engine failure and was forced to land in a remote region of Raccoon Forest, Edward armed himself with his rifle and began scouting the area. After diverging from the rest of the team, Edward was attacked by infected 'Cerberus' guard dogs and was fatally injured. He managed to escape the creatures by fleeing into a nearby train (the Ecliptic Express) but died of his wounds before Rebecca, who was scouting the train, could administer medical assistance. Edward is the first S.T.A.R.S. operative killed on the Arklay mission.

Sometime later, Edward returned to life as a zombie due to his earlier exposure to the T-Virus. Rebecca, left with little choice, disposed of her former comrade.

Enrico Marini

Enrico and his team were sent to the Raccoon Forest located within the Arklay Mountain region to investigate the serial homicides that had been occurring in that area. After being forced to land their helicopter in Raccoon Forest, Enrico ordered his team to search and secure the site. Upon a quick recon of the surrounding area, they uncovered an overturned military transport vehicle with the remains of two MP officers inside. The team also found documents containing information about a prisoner that was being transported, Billy Coen, at the time of the attack. Suspecting the officer's deaths to have come at the hands of their prisoner, he ordered his team to split up and search for Coen.

Mansion incident

Rebecca Chambers:

Rebecca and Billy parted ways, with Billy giving his dog tags to Rebecca as a reminder of him. After going their separate ways, Rebecca rendezvoused with the remainder of her team within the Spencer Mansion. However, Bravo Team was no match against the various creatures that were being harvested in the mansion and Rebecca could do nothing but watch.

Alpha Team was later sent to rescue Bravo Team, and Rebecca met with member Chris Redfield. The two teamed-up, with Rebecca providing her superior intellect in situations that required it, such as playing a piano or mixing chemicals, while Chris saved Rebecca's life on a few occasions. Eventually the two uncovered that Alpha Team leader, Albert Wesker, was the one who masterminded the deaths of several S.T.A.R.S. members and was personally responsible for Enrico Marini's death. However, Chris and Rebecca eventually foiled Wesker's plot, with Chris destroying the Tyrant (Resident Evil) and Rebecca activating the self-destruct mechanism of the lab. The two escaped along with fellow Alpha Team members, Jill Valentine and Barry Burton.

Upon her return to civilization, Rebecca wrote a police report detailing Billy Coen's death, though it is presumed it was a lie and Billy is indeed alive, and disappeared. Rebecca's current whereabouts are unknown, although it is believed she went underground along with the other S.T.A.R.S. survivors to participate in Anti-Umbrella operations.

Chris Redfield

In July, 1998, Alpha Team was deployed to Raccoon Forest to investigate the disappearance of Bravo Team. In their search of the area, Alpha Team discovered Bravo Team's helicopter and the remains of their pilot. Shortly afterwards, the team was attacked by zombie dogs. After witnessing the death of fellow member Joseph Frost, Alpha Team was abandoned by their pilot and the remaining members fled into a nearby mansion.

Upon further investigation of the residence, Chris and the others discovered that the entire mansion was infested with undead beings and mutants. Moreover, the team also discovered the remains of their Bravo Team compatriots. Chris met with a survivor of Bravo Team, a medic named Rebecca Chambers. With her help, Chris managed to overcome some of the tougher obstacles in the mansion.

Together, they discovered that the mansion was actually a front for a top-secret facility owned by the Umbrella Corporation that has been harvesting secret "Bio-Organic Weapons" developed from the T-Virus. In addition, their team's captain, Albert Wesker, intentionally led S.T.A.R.S. to the mansion in order to test the BOWs performances. However, it seemed that Wesker was taken out by his own creation, the Tyrant, who went after Chris. After defeating the Tyrant, Rebecca activated the self-destruct system and the two escaped along with fellow survivors, Jill and Barry.

After returning to the Raccoon Police Department, Chris and the remainder of S.T.A.R.S. requested a full-scale investigation of Umbrella's activities. The team's request was denied by the chief of police, Brian Irons, and very few people believed their unlikely story. Without any other alternatives left, Chris and the others travelled to Europe to investigate Umbrella's main headquarters, and remained hidden until December of 1998.

Jill Valentine

On July 24, 1998 , S.T.A.R.S. Bravo team was deployed to the forest surrounding Raccoon City located in the Arklay Mountains after evidence of grisly, cannibalistic murders. After contact with Bravo team was lost, the Alpha team was sent to find out what happened to their comrades. Soon after their arrival, the team found the destroyed remains of Bravo teams's helicopter and were quickly attacked by vicious Cerberus, canines infected with the T-Virus. After witnessing the death of member fellow Alpha team member Joseph Frost, the team was abandoned by their helicopter pilot, Brad "ChickenHeart" Vickers, and the remaining members fled to a nearby mansion, the Arklay Research Facility.

Jill, along with fellow survivors Barry Burton and

Barry Burton

Barry managed to survive the initial confrontation with the Cerberuses and escaped into the mansion along with fellow Alpha Team members Jill Valentine, Albert Wesker and Chris Redfield. Afterwards, he helped Jill overcome several of the mansion's traps and creatures. However, Wesker, who was actually a spy working for Umbrella, blackmailed Barry to do his bidding by using his family as leverage. Barry began to eliminate any evidence that implicated Wesker and began luring Jill to traps against monsters. It was because of Barry that Wesker was able to track down Enrico and murder him. At this point, Barry did not tolerate the injustices that Wesker had committed against his comrades any longer and regained his sense of justice, managing to save Jill from Wesker at the last moment.Barry then escapes the mansion alongside Jill, Chris and Rebecca.

After the Mansion incident, Barry immediately moved his family to Canada , out of Umbrella's reach in order to ensure their safety. He then left them to rejoin Chris and Jill in their Anti-Umbrella efforts. During the T-Virus outbreak, when Raccoon City was facing nuclear annihilation, he took a civilian helicopter in order to locate Jill and extract her from the city. Barry came in contact with U.B.C.S. mercenary Carlos Oliveira(who helped Jill during the outbreak) and was abled to locate Jill before the missile could be launched. Afterwards, the three participated in undisclosed Anti-Umbrella operations until Umbrella's shutdown by the Government

Albert Wesker

The following day, all contact with Bravo Team was lost and Wesker's Alpha Team was dispatched to the site. Upon arrival, Alpha Team was attacked by canine zombies (the Cerberi) and then abandoned by their pilot, Brad Vickers. After the loss of member Joseph Frost to the zombified dogs, Wesker and the remaining members of Alpha Team sought refuge in the nearby mansion where Wesker had previously worked. Initially ordering everyone to split up, Wesker disappeared and left the remaining members of Alpha Team Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, and Barry Burton to fend for themselves, Wesker probably gained acess to a secret area or had the master key of the mansion, in order to disappear for a great part of events that the other members of S.T.A.R.S. witnessed. Some suggest that he monitorized from a secret area the batles between the remaining S.T.A.R.S. operatives and the creatures that infestaded the mansion.

Of the nine S.T.A.R.S. operatives who entered the mansion (including Wesker himself), only the members of Alpha Team, along with Bravo Team's List of minor STARS characters in Resident Evil Enrico_Marini and Rebecca Chambers managed to survive against the various creatures and bio-organic weapons that infested the facility. In order to ensure the downfall of the other members, Wesker used blackmail in order to convince Barry to do his bidding (luring the others to traps) by threatening his family. When Enrico uncovered evidence that implicated Wesker and Umbrella, Wesker murdered Enrico (though, it has been stated that Wesker ordered Barry to perform the actual murder although this can't happen because he is with you in Jills story line.) However, Jill and Chris learned the truth about him and then proceeded to foil his plot by destroying the T-002 Tyrant (Resident Evil, along with the facility itself.

During the ensuing chaos, Wesker injected himself with a serum (colloquially known as the "Plot Device Virus"), given to him by his partner William Birkin, that would place him in a state of suspended animation. This allowed him to fake his own death and gave him superhuman strength, agility, and regeneration, but at the severe cost of the loss of his Humanity . The resulting mutation also gave him cat-like eyes (but these are not immediately noticeable due to the sunglasses he always wears). Wesker was revived, while Umbrella and the remaining S.T.A.R.S. operatives were convinced that he died in the explosion. Realizing the S.T.A.R.S. had destroyed the Tyrant and escaped with their lives, he swore revenge against the remaining S.T.A.R.S. members. His plan to leave no shred of evidence behind had been foiled. He wanted to avoid suspicion cast in his direction, so as not to expose his long-past machinations to scrutiny by Umbrella. Alas, when the remaining S.T.A.R.S. attempted to go public with what they knew, though disbelieved by the public, Umbrella was very interested in Wesker's betrayal. Eventually they began to suspect Birkin as well, and planned to have him assassinated and his G-Virus projects seized (after Birkin decided to leave Umbrella and sell his work directly to the U.S. Government instead). Wesker knew this and began to prepare to head off Umbrella.

Joseph Frost

When Alpha Team was sent to Raccoon Forest to investigate Bravo Team's disappearance, Frost discovered Bravo Team's ruined helicopter and the remains of its pilot, Kevin Dooley. Shortly after his gruesome find, he was attacked by infected "Cerberus" guard dogs. Putting up a desperate fight against the terrifying creatures, his teammates scattered in confusion, Frost eventually succumbed to their superior numbers and was mauled to death. He was the first (and only true) casualty of Alpha Team during the Arklay incident and his death served as a chilling warning to the others as to the seriousness of their situation. Without a doubt, Joseph was infected with the T-Virus during the attack. It is probable to assume that his corpse returned to life after infection and was likely killed, once again, in the explosion of Spencer Mansion, or in the explosion of Raccoon City and the surrounding area.

Brad Vickers

During the Arklay mission, after finding the Bravo Team's destroyed helicopter, Alpha Team was attacked by the "Cerberus" zombie dogs whilst searching for Bravo Team's remaining members. Vickers was overcome with fear and fled the landing site in Alpha's helicopter, leaving the rest of the team to seek refuge within the nearby Spencer Mansion. Sometime later, Vickers regained his composure and began searching the area from the safety of the skies above, attempting to communicate with the surviving S.T.A.R.S. members via his onboard radio as they investigated the facility. When the S.T.A.R.S. survivors managed to fight their way into the mansion's heliport and signal Brad using an emergency flare, they were attacked by the Tyrant B.O.W., which had been unleashed by the rogue operative, Albert Wesker. Brad provided critical assistance in the destruction of the rampaging monster by dropping the team a rocket launcher, and airlifting the surviving S.T.A.R.S. members (Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Barry Burton and Rebecca Chambers) to safety before the mansion was destroyed by it's self-destruct system, activated earlier by the team to halt the spread of the T-Virus.

Richard Aiken

During the mansion incident, he was poisoned in an attack by the B.O.W. "Yawn", and was tended by Bravo Team's medical officer, Rebecca Chambers, until the arrival of Alpha Team. Alpha's members fought through the mansion desperately searching for a suitable antidote to the highly toxic venom coursing through Richard's veins. Their efforts proved successful and they delivered the serum to him in time to neutralize the effects of the B.O.W.'s venom. In gratitude, he gave the team his tactical radio, which they later used to receive incoming transmissions from the team's pilot, Brad. However, Richard himself did not live to escape the mansion.

Enrico Marini

During his pursuit, Enrico encountered the various twisted creatures that had been created by the Umbrella Corporation's Arklay research team. His investigation led him to Umbrella's underground laboratory within Raccoon City, where he encountered fellow Bravo Team rookie, Rebecca Chambers. Choosing to abort his search for Billy, Enrico decided that rendezvous with the rest of his team was of utmost priority and he sought refuge from the monsters within Spencer Mansion, where much of Bravo Team was located

Forest Speyer

During the mansion incident, Forest met his demise after being severely wounded within the mansion and retreating to the terrace, only to be finished off by a large murder of T-Virus infected crows. The Alpha Team discovered him on the terrace, having been dead for hours. Shortly after, the effects of the T-Virus brought Forest back to life, although his blank eyes and pained groans showed the Alpha Team no signs of the man that he once was. Chris and the others were left with no choice but to kill their former comrade in self-defence. Jill then took Forest's grenade launcher and used it to ensure her own survival.

Kenneth J. Sullivan

He was the first true Bravo Team casualty discovered by the members of Alpha Team upon their arrival to the Arklay Mansion. The team, hearing a gunshot fired from a nearby room, moved to investigate. However, they arrived too late to assist Sullivan, who had already been killed by a zombie. Although Kenneth is the first casualty that the Alpha team encounters, he survived the horror of the mansion for quite some time since he was still alive when the Alpha team members enter the mansion, and he possibly could have survived if the Alpha team members had arrived a couple of minutes before, although this is highly unlikely, as he would have probably have been killed by one of the many monsters throughout the Mansion.

Raccoon City incident

Claire Redfield

A college student prior to the T-Virus outbreak in Raccoon City, Claire left school in order to investigate her older brother's disappearance a few months after the Mansion Incident. Her investigation led her to Raccoon City, which was already contaminated by the T-Virus. When she arrived there, Claire was attacked by the city's infected citizens, but was quickly rescued by rookie officer Leon S. Kennedy. They decided to seek refuge in the Raccoon Police Department. Upon her arrival at the RPD, Claire discovered that Chris had already left the city and went to Europe in order to investigate Umbrella's activities. Unable to find her brother, Claire and Leon split up to look for a way to escape the city.

During her search, Claire met with a little girl named Sherry Birkin, a daughter of Umbrella scientists, who helped Claire in finding an escape route. In addition, Claire also confronted the RPD's corrupt chief,Brian Irons, who had murdered some of the survivors Mayor Michael Warren's daughter Eliza). Chief Irons shortly fell victim to a mutated William Birkin.

Claire and Sherry found a secret underground passage through the sewers which led to one of Umbrella's underground labs. Claire and Sherry would often get separated through their escape. When Sherry's life was in jeopardy, Claire turned to Sherry's mother, Annette Birkin for assistance and managed to save Sherry's life with her help. Unfortunately, Annette did not survive.

Claire and Sherry, along with Leon, made their escape through a secret railroad in Umbrella's lab and managed to put an end to the mutated William Birkin by blowing up the train. Afterwards, Claire left the US to continue her search for Chris.

Leon Scott Kennedy

A man with a strong sense of justice and the duty to protect the weak. At the age of 21, Leon was assigned to work for the Raccoon Police Department (R.P.D.) in their Select Police Force division (S.P.F.) after graduating from the police academy. He arrived at Raccoon City on September 29, 1998 , a few days later than he was scheduled to, due to a breakup with his girlfriend at the time.

When he arrived, the majority of the city's police officers were already dead and most of the citizens were already turned into zombies. After his first encounter with the living dead, Leon met with another survivor, Claire Redfield, who just arrived to the city in search of her brother. Together they decided to seek refuge within the R.P.D.'s headquarters, but after arriving there they decide to search for a way out of the city separately.

During his probe of the R.P.D. precinct, Leon meets another survivor named Ada Wong, a woman who claimed she was looking for her missing boyfriend. Together, they find a secret entrance within the sewer leading to one of Umbrella's secret facilities. Ada is mortally wounded (first by a mutated William Birkin's claw and later by either Annette Birkin or Tyrant (Resident Evil), depending on the scenario) and Leon discovers that Ada was a spy working for Umbrella's undisclosed competitor. However at the near end, a mysterious figure (with Ada's voice and silhouette) helps Leon (or Claire) by giving them a rocket launcher to help defeat the Tyrant. Leon is reunited with Claire and the two (along with William Birkin's daughter, Sherry Birkin) make their escape through a secret railway and then proceed to destroy the mutant Birkin by detonating the train.

Ada Wong

Several months later, Ada was given another mission by her employer. This time, her objective was to steal a sample of the G-Virus from William Birkin in Raccoon City during the T-Virus outbreak. She was assisted in this mission by Albert Wesker>, a former Umbrella researcher himself and the infamous traitor to the S.T.A.R.S. , who was recently recruited by Ada's employer after faking his death during the mansion incident.

Ada went to the Raccoon Police Department to find a reporter named Ben Bertolucci, who claimed to have vital information about the Umbrella Corporation. In her search of the department, she met with surviving officer Leon S. Kennedy. With Leon's help, the two were able to find Ben, who locked himself in the base's prison. Ben provided the two with documents detailing about the conspiracy between Brian Irons and William Birkin, the designer of the

Ada and Leon made their way into sewers, as they attempted to flee the infested city. The two cooperated with each other and Ada even treated Leon's wound after taking a bullet for her, fired by Annette Birkin. They find a lift which leads to Umbrella's Underground Lab, but before they could reach the lab, Ada is struck by Mr. X (aka Tyrant T-003) and is critically injured. During the ensuing confusion, after Leon confronts Annette for the last time, Ada is seriously injured and presumed dead (depending on the scenario the player is playing, she either, falls from a catwalk after being shot by Annette or loses consciousness after being slammed by theTyrant (Resident Evil). Despite her suspected death, Wesker was able to save her from behind the scenes. Ada managed to recover and provided the rocket launcher that Leon and Claire used to defeat the Tyrant. Although Ada and Wesker were unable to retrieve the G-Virus sample (having lost it to HUNK , they managed to find William Birkin's corpse and use it as a specimen.

Jill Valentine

After their return to Raccoon City, S.T.A.R.S. request for a full-scale investigation of Umbrella's activities was denied by their superior, Chief Brian Irons of the RPD. With no support from the American government, Chris, Barry and Jill decided to travel to Europe and investigate Umbrella's main headquarters themselves. Chris went ahead and travelled to Europe by himself by the end of August while Barry went to Canada to relocate his family first. Jill decided to stay in Raccoon in order to investigate the whereabouts of Umbrella's Underground Facility before joining her comrades.

However, three months after the mansion incident (on September 28), her investigation was ruined when the Raccoon City was infected with the T-Virus. During her escape, she witnessed the death of Alpha Team's pilot Brad Vickers, at the hands of "Nemesis", a BOW sent by Umbrella to assassinate the remaining S.T.A.R.S. members. Jill managed to thwart Nemesis temporarily and met with Carlos Oliveira, a surviving member of the UBCS (Umbrella Biohazard-Countermeasure Service) along with Nicholai Ginovaef and Mikhail Victor. However, Mikhail lost his life protecting Jill from Nemesis and Nicholai was presumed dead after a zombie attack. Jill and Carlos ended up in a nearby clock tower after their train collided off-course. During the following battle with Nemesis, Jill was infected with the T-Virus and lay in a semi-coma for a few hours.

Two days later (on the night of October 1st), Jill later recovered after being administered with a serum by Carlos, and later discovered another one of Umbrella's secret research facilities hidden behind a park. In this lab, she confronted Nicholai for the last time and fought with Nemesis once again. Jill successfully destroyed Nemesis with a top-secret weapon that was transported to the facility a few days and managed to escape from the city with Carlos via helicopter. As they flew away, Jill witnessed the destruction of Raccoon City after the US government ordered the city to be nuked. Since they first met, Carlos displayed an interest in Jill but she rejected his advances. However, as time progressed, Jill became more and more attracted to the handsome young man. Carlos' selflessness and care for her eventually won Jill's admiration and affection. By the end of the game, it is highly possible that she returned his feelings as they were seen on a ship together. Jill, Barry and Carlos would go on to become involved in various Anti-Umbrella groups and activities.

Carlos Oliveira

During his search of the city, he met with surviving S.T.A.R.S. operative Jill Valentine. He became immeddiately smitten with her but Jill rejected his advances. At first, Jill was reluctant to trust Carlos due to his affiliation with Umbrella and macho attitude, but she quickly learned that Carlos was almost unaware of the company's nefarious deeds and was simply an expendable pawn to them. The two teamed up and managed to escape the Downtown area of the city and into the St. Michael Clock Tower, where Jill fought the Nemesis (Resident Evil). As a result of the battle, Jill became infected with the T-Virus after being struck by one of Nemesis' tentacles. To help save her Carlos went to Raccoon Hospital and managed to prepare a Vaccine that cured Jill from her infection. Afterwards, he proceeded to the Abandoned Factory near Raccoon Park and found a helicopter that allowed him to escape with Jill (However, if Nicholai gets to the helicopter first, Carlos still tries to contact other helicopters, this resulting in Barry Burton coming to pick up both Carlos and Jill). After the destruction of Raccoon City, he joined Jill Valentine and Barry Burton's Anti-Umbrella organization until Umbrella's closure by the U.S. Government. Throughout the game, the feelings between Jill and Carlos grew. Carlos' affection for Jill could be seen especially when he risked everything to bring her the vaccine to cure her. It is highly likely that by the end of their adventure, Jill returned his feelings when they were seen on the ship in the ending.

Barry Burton

when Raccoon City was facing nuclear annihilation, he took a civilian helicopter in order to locate Jill and extract her from the city. Barry came in contact with U.B.C.S. mercenary Carlos Oliveira(who helped Jill during the outbreak) and was abled to locate Jill before the missile could be launched. Afterwards, the three participated in undisclosed Anti-Umbrella operations until Umbrella's shutdown by the Government.

Albert Wesker

Using data he recorded, Wesker bought his employment by an undisclosed competitor of Umbrella (colloquially known as "The Organization" or "Agency") and began working covertly with agent Ada Wong to spy on Umbrella. During the T-Virus outbreak, Wesker and Ada were assigned to retrieve the G-Virus sample from Birkin. However, Ada was mortally wounded during the attempt and barely rescued by Wesker, and the G-Virus sample was instead taken by HUNK, a surviving operative of the Umbrella Special Forces Unit Alpha Team. Instead of the G-Virus sample, Wesker and Ada managed to procure William Birkin's corpse, who was transformed into a monstrous creature after being injected with the virus, but died in a train explosion triggered by Raccoon City survivors Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield. Wesker also has men watching over Birkin's daughter Sherry Birkin, who had worn the pendant containing the G-Virus sample that HUNK retrieved. Wesker, who never underestimated Birkin, claims, "There's something about this little girl ..."

HUNK

After his mission in Raccoon City, he went through another classified operation in which he and his team transported a B.O.W. capsule to Rockfort Island. Although he has the utmost respect for the island's commander, Alfred Ashford, he also criticized Ashford's confidentiality policy in his report, as he refused to divulge the content of the B.O.W. capsule (an experimental Tyrant model). HUNK's whereabouts after Umbrella's shutdown by the government are unknown, although it is believed he presently works as a mercenary for hire.

Nicholai Ginovaef

An exceptionally ruthless and crafty individual, not caring about anyone but himself, Nicholai realizes that if all the other Supervisors were to die, he will have a monopoly on the combat data, giving him the ability to bargain for a higher price from Umbrella. Nicholai spends much of his time covertly hunting down the other Supervisors and executing them, but unfortunately for Nicholai, Carlos learns that he is eliminating the rest of the UBCS and informs Jill that Nicholai is dangerous and wil try to eliminate them. Jill Valentine, in her explorations of Raccoon City, often unknowingly encounters his handiwork. Nicholai also plotted to kill Jill in order to collect a bounty Umbrella placed on her life. Jill eventually confronts Nicholai, Nicholai might have tryed to eliminate Jill at that moment if there hadnīt been an intervention by a B.O.W known as Gravedigger. Unlike Albert Wesker, who had previously also deceived and betrayed Jill, Nicholai does not gloat about his deception. Rather than bearing his enemies and victims any malice, Nicholai seems to take a detached, business-like attitude towards dispatching them through booby traps, which allows us to understand that he is only interested about his career, and doensīt care about the methods he as to use to achieve his goals. Though in the novelization of Resident Evil 3, he is displayed to have a minorly sadistic attribute, mainly because he shoots Mikhail just to see him in pain and he constantly contemplates how to get the most horrified looks from Carlos and Mikhail when he betrays them.

Lieutenant Mikhail Victor

During T-Virus outbreak in Raccoon City, Mikhail's Delta Platoon was deployed to the city to contain the outbreak. However, the zombies and various creatures in the city proved too much for the platoon to handle and most of his men lost their lives. Mikhail himself was wounded when his platoon and the people they had rescued made a stand against the zombies in the Raccoon City hall. Mikhail was saved by his subordinates, Nicholai Ginovaef and Carlos Oliveira, who were only known survivors in his platoon. The three of them met with S.T.A.R.S. operative Jill Valentine while seeking refugee within one of the city's cable car. Despite his injuries, Mikhail was a persistent fighter who at one point left the confines on the cable car to fight off the immediate threat of zombies (in an optional scene viewable by the player after Jill collects two of the three required items to activate the cable car). When Jill and Carlos managed to get the cable car running, the Nemesis found its way into the car where Mikhail was resting in order to get to Jill. Mikhail decided to sacrifice his life to save Jill by fighting the Nemesis and detonating an incendiary grenade within the car, allowing Jill and Carlos to escape. It is suggested that Mikhail felt guilty for the death of his men, and that his sacrifice was an oportunity for redemption. On the other hand, it is possible that Mikhail sacrificed himself due to the fact that he was badly injured, and knew that he would probably turn into one of the zombies sooner or later, thus putting the other survivors in danger.

Brad Vickers

Sometime after the mansion incident, Brad became one of the surviving S.T.A.R.S. members targeted by Umbrella's experimental Nemesis B.O.W. sent to Raccoon City during the T-Virus outbreak. On September 28, during the chaotic few days that followed the mass-infection of almost the entire Raccoon City populace, Brad was relentlessly pursued by the Nemesis through the ruined city. While trying to escape his assailant, he was seriously wounded by a zombie at the Bar Jack where he came into contact with fellow Alpha Team member, Jill Valentine(if the player doesn't help Brad he won't give as much information). Warning Jill of the danger they both faced, Brad fled the area in his panicked attempt to escape the creature pursuing him. While making his way towards the R.P.D precinct, seeking Raccoon City's last hope of safety from the encroaching hordes of infected citizens, he was caught by the Nemesis and brutally killed right in front of a horrified Jill Valentine. Due to the high amount of T-Virus infected cells in the Nemesis' tentacles, and possibly infection from his previous wounds, it only took a day for Brad's corpse to mutate into a zombie. Although Brad didnīt have a survival instinct as developed as Jill and lacked of courage, he still had to be a tough guy, due to the fact, that he was one of the last people to die and was able to to escape "Nemesis" at least once.

William Birkin

He completed his development of the G-Virus in September 1998 and planned on using his final research in order to be promoted into Umbrella's executive board. However, he began to disagree with his superiors and planned on keeping his research to himself and sell it to the U.S. Government. He requested to have the Military intervened and retrieve him. However, the team that was sent never came and the Umbrella Special Forces Unit Alpha Team (led by HUNK, under orders from Christine Henri and Spencer) came to steal his work. He was shot by the soldiers and left for dead. Refusing to have his work stolen, he injected himself with a sample of the G-Virus and turned into the mutated creature known as G.

Rockfort Island/Antarctic Lab incident

Claire Redfield

Three months after the incident, Claire raided one of Umbrella's headquarters, but was captured and imprisoned in Umbrella's Rockfort Island facility. During Claire's captivity, the facility was attacked by an army led by the traitorous S.T.A.R.S officer, Albert . The facility also contained a storehouse with various chemicals and BOWs for training purposes, including the T-Virus. The virus escaped following an explosion, and many of the soldiers and prisoners on the island were turned into zombies. Claire was released by Juan Raval an Umbrella employee who had captured Claire in Paris, and was accompanied during her escape by another prisoner, Steve Burnside. Claire and Steve were both hunted down by the facility's owner, Alfred Ashford, and the two had eventually ended up in one of Umbrella's labs, secluded in Antarctica. Alfred was eventually defeated and killed, but not before reviving his twin sister, Alexia Ashford, from cryogenic sleep.

Claire and Steve were taken prisoner by Alexia. However, her brother Chris had received the e-mail Claire sent through Leon and managed to penetrate the Antarctica lab. He eventually rescued Claire and the two were reunited briefly, before being separated by Alexia herself. During her escape, Claire encountered a captured Steve, who transformed into a monster after being injected with the T-Veronica virus. However, Steve's body did not accept the transformation and he reverted back to normal before seemingly dying in front of Claire. With Steve gone, Claire helped her brother defeat Alexia and the two escaped from the facility.

Since then, Claire presumably joined her brother in his Anti-Umbrella activities up until Umbrella's shutdown by the government.

Chris Redfield

Chris would remain underground until December 1998, when he received an e-mail from Anti-Umbrella supporter Leon S. Kennedy informing him about his sister Claire Redfield captivity on Rockfort Island, an Umbrella-owned island. Upon his arrival on the island, Chris met with the prison's warden, Rodrigo Juan Raval, who knew of Claire's whereabouts. Rodrigo was killed shortly thereafter, after being swallowed (and vomited back up) by a giant worm. Chris also met with his former commander, Wesker, who was surprisingly alive and well despite his apparent death during the mansion incident. Wesker now held a grudge against Chris for foiling his plans during that time.

After narrowly surviving his encounter with Wesker, Chris managed to be reunited with his sister. Together, they confronted and defeated the true head of the Ashford clan, Alexia Ashford. The Redfield siblings escaped from the island through a jet, but not before Chris was attacked once more by Wesker. The battle reached a deadlock, and realizing neither had time to finish the confrontation, both went to their own escape routes. The two have vowed to defeat one another, solidifying their rivalry

Steve Burnside

When Albert Wesker's forces attacked the island, Steve took advantage of the ensuing confusion and escaped from his captivity and met with Claire Redfield, who was recently imprisoned on the island herself. At first, Steve was reluctant to cooperate with Claire, leaving Claire to fend for herself. But after a close encounter with one of the facility's traps and the fact that he and Claire were the only non-infected individuals on the island, Steve had no choice but to trust Claire. During their exploration of the facility, Steve met with his father, now transformed into a Zombie as a result of the viral outbreak. Steve was forced to kill his father in order to save Claire.

Steve began to open up to Claire more, becoming more affectionate towards her and also started to recover his trusting nature. The two were hunted by the facility's manager, Alfred Ashford, as they made their escape from the island. Although Steve managed to find a sea plane on the island's airport, the plane's navigational system was programmed to arrive at Umbrella's Antarctic Facility. The plane crashed into the facility since it had no landing gear. Claire and Steve confronted Alfred within the Antarctic Facility and Steve managed to fatally wound Alfred during a shoot-out. When it seemed like the two were free from Alfred's clutches, they were once again taken captive by Alexia Ashford (who was awakened from cryogenic sleep).

The two were held within a replica of the Spencer Mansion hidden within the base. Steve was injected with an advanced form of the T-Veronica by Alexia that was harvested from her body. Claire managed to free herself with her Chris Redfield help and tried to release the captive Steve. However, Steve transformed into a rampaging monster and went after Claire. Unable to control himself at first, Steve eventually recognized Claire and regained his conscience. He was unabled to survive the mutation and transformed back into a human. Before his apparent death, Steve declared his love for Claire.

Despite his apparent death, Steve's body was recoved by Albert Wesker in order to extract the T-Veronica within his body and has even hinted that he has the technology to restore him to life.

 Albert Wesker

Wesker was sent on another mission three months later, to retrieve a sample of the T-Veronica Virus that had been created on Rockfort Island and neutralize the Ashford family who created it, and Alexia Ashford. During his mission, he also encountered former subordinate Chris Redfield, who was on the island to save his sister Claire. Wesker went to Ashford's Antarctic Research Facility, where he fought against both Alexia and Chris. While Alexia herself was killed by Chris, Wesker still managed to retrieve Steve Burnside's corpse (who was previously injected with the T-Veronica virus) as a specimen. As the base started to self-destruct, Wesker attempted to engage Chris in combat to settle the score. Wesker used his immense strength to gain dominance, but Chris refused to allow Wesker an easy kill. Eventually, Wesker was wounded by an explosion and his face burned. Realizing that they would have to settle their score another day, Wesker fled and left Chris to his own escape. His facial burns have since healed during the six years that have passed between the Antarctic Base incident and the incident with Los Illuminados.

Los Illuminados incident

Ada Wong

Six years after the Raccoon City incident, Ada was sent to an undisclosed village in Europe that had been taken over by Osmund Saddler, leader of the "Los Illuminados" religious cult, after he infected the villagers with Las Plagas. Her mission was to steal a specialized sample of the Plaga held by Saddler. During her mission, she met once again with Leon, who was on a mission to save the President's daughter, Ashley Graham, from the same cult. She was also assisted by a spaniard named Luis Sera. During her mission, she aided Leon on several occasions by providing him with notes about several of the Ganados' traps set for him. Ada is also responsible for a number of things Leon encounters during his mission such as puzzles and traps set off in a certain way and so forth. Although her mission is to retrieve a master sample of the Plaga, Ada's primary objective is to get in good favor with the mysterious organization she works for and is also conspiring against Wesker. Arguably if it wasn't for Ada's role behind the scenes Leon's mission would have been a failure. She also aids Leon in battle and even saves him from the influence of the Plaga during the mission (ironically taking Leon's earlier advice about using a knife in close combat). Another of Ada's accomplishments is the destruction of a previously unseen battleship the Los Iluminados had in their disposal.

Shortly before the climax of Ada's mission, she is attacked by what's left of Jack Krauser, freshly burned and scarred from his battle with Leon. Almost completely corrupted by the Plaga, Ada takes it upon herself to go on the offensive and kill Krauser. Having studied his style and mutation closely before, Ada is more than a match for Krauser and he is killed presumably for good. Shortly after this Ada covers Leon and Ashley's escape from Saddler by blocking the passage trapping both Ada and Saddler in the same room. A battle occurs where Ada fights Saddler's human form. With incredible strength, Saddler is quite a challenge but Ada is eventually able to overwhelm him through her skill. However, this isn't the case as Saddler comes to his senses shortly after and gets the drop on Ada. Using Ada as bait to trap Leon, Saddler is shocked to realize Leon's plaga has been destroyed as Leon frees Ada from captivity. Ada and Leon fight Saddler during the final battle, and as Leon confronts the monstrous cult leader, Ada struggles in a race against time to find Leon a powerful weapon to use against him. Rushing through hordes of Ganado, Ada finds a specialized rocket launcher and throws it to Leon at the critical moment of the battle (for the second time in their history, if one considers the "Leon B" scenario in Resident Evil 2).

Eventually, Ada is able to steal the master Plaga sample from Saddler's island base after the battle. After she obtains the sample, she gives Leon and Ashley a means of escape and makes her own on an organization helicopter. As she rides off, Ada is comforted by the warm light of the sunrise on the horizon. However, she can't help but think that while this mission is over the battle has just begun.

Ada had obtained the sample, the goal of her mission and one step of Wesker's plan to resurrect the Umbrella Corporation. However, the Organization that employs both Wesker and Ada have become suspicious of Wesker's activities, due to his connections with another major pharmaceutical corporation 'S'. Under orders of the Organization, Ada delivered a fake version of the sample to Wesker. Ada knows however, that Wesker isn't stupid and that tough times lay in wait.

Leon Scott Kennedy

In 2004, a 27-year old Leon was assigned to the Secret service. His first mission is a top-secret one, to save President Graham's daughter, Ashley Graham, whom dissapeared shortly before. Information gathered pointed to the kidnappers being located in a remote area of Spain . Leon investigates on his own, along with two members of the local police. Unfortunatly, it seems something bizzare has happened to the local townsfolk and after the two officers are promptly killed, Leon finds himself relying on his skills once again in a deadly fight for survival. Leon learns from his superiors that the perpetrators are a group called "Los Iluminados" (from Spanish, meaning "The Illuminated Ones"), a religious cult led by a man named Osmund Saddler. This cult uses a mysterious parasitic organism known as Plaga (spanish for Plague ) to take control of the local townsfolk as well as many others around the area such as a group of Mercenaries. Although a seemingly hopeless situation, the fanatical cult finds the formiddable Leon to be more than they bargained for as he foils attempt after attempt to kill him. During the course of his mission, Leon is helped by Luis Sera, a man who is revealed to be a researcher who used to work for Saddler, but betrayed him. Leon also once again has a chance encounter with Ada, who is also involved in this incident. She provides assistance to Leon, but has a fight of her own to battle out as well. Leon is assisted by Hunnigan, an information analyst and fellow government official via a communicator. As Leon progresses however, he finds the transmission hijacked by the cult and he is forced to fend for himself.

Leon eventually finds Ashley in a church, and he becomes responsible for her safety as the two make their way around the Los Illuminados controlled area. It is revealed however, that both Leon and Ashley have been infected with the Plaga and are now in a race against time to find a cure for this before they are forever turned into Saddler's slaves. Aquiring weapons from a mysterious Merchant Cockney accent, Leon manages to fight his way through many harrowing perils within the local village and a mysterious Castle run by the cult. He eventually fights against two of Saddler's underlings, village chief Bitores Mendez" and the Castle's castellan Ramon Salazar. Leon also confronts his former comrade Jack Krauser, who was now working as a double agent for both a mystery party and Saddler. It is revealed to the player (but not Leon necessarilly) that this mysterious third player in the conflict is non other than Albert Wesker, whom Ada is also working for. Unknown to Leon, a secret battle is being waged behind the scenes which is explored in Ada's unlockable scenerio "Separate Ways". Eventually, Ashley is abducted and Leon must race against time to rescue her before her Plaga fully develops, not to mention his own. With continued support from Ada, Leon fights his way through a local military base where Saddler and the cult have taken refuge. Fighting against both a deadly enemy and the enemy within, this battle tests all of Leon's strength and skill. Leon fights against Krauser for the last time, and eventually saves Ashley after removing the Plagas parasites within them by use of a special radiation machine developed by Luis late during his mission. Afterwards, Leon battles Saddler in his true form, and with Ada's help (who provides him with a specialized rocket launcher), is able to put an end to him and his plot.

After the battle, Ada takes the Plagas sample from Leon and makes her getaway, but gives Leon and Ashley a means to escape as well via a jet-ski. Despite this turn of events, Leon is aware that he still may have not shed his affection for Ada, the "part of me I can't let go." After completing his mission, he talks with Hunnigan whom finally manages to reestablish contact. He compliments her on her appearance (she isn't wearing any glasses at this point) and lightly flirts with her by asking for her number, to which she reminds him that "he's still on duty" . Upon being left in the dust by a second woman, Leon can only reply with an amused sigh, "...story of my life."

Albert Wesker

Years after Umbrella's shutdown, Wesker's been sighted years later giving orders to Ada and former American soldier Jack Krauser, who were on a classified mission to steal the "Plagas" sample from religious cult leader, Osmund Saddler, in Europe. Wesker, in his goal to gain power, is now attempting to re-establish the defunct Umbrella under his leadership. Since the downfall of Umbrella, several of the remaining leaders of Umbrella have since established their own pharmaceutical companies in an attempt to fill Umbrella's void. Wesker has contacted one of these companies, identified only as "S", presumably in an attempt to join them. The organization which hired Wesker has since become suspicious of Wesker's activities due to a possible conflict of interest. As a countermeasure, Ada (under orders from the organization) delivered a fake Plaga sample to Wesker instead of the one Ada actually obtained.

Wesker is a true Renaissance man. He is proficient in the fields of science, research, observation, biology, virology, evolution, combat, weapons, tactics, police procedure, espionage, murder, subterfuge, blackmail, opportunity, planning, persuasion, arms dealing, doublecross, and even extra-sensory perception as well as super human strength and vitality due to his mutations.

As of now, Wesker has amassed a wealth of combat data of various B.O.W.s and mutants. He also has a large array of biological samples, possibly more than is known.

It should be noted that Wesker seems to only have loyalty to himself, and seems to be playing all sides to his own advantage. He is seemingly trying to sell data and samples between competitors, like a weapons dealer selling to multiple factions, in order to gain a competitor's access to more opportunities to acquire additional data and samples. It is unknown what he will do with all the data and samples he has amassed, though it should be remembered Wesker was and may still be an active scientist. Ada comments in her report that to Wesker "Umbrella meant power;" Perhaps this is a hint to Wesker's motives.

With so many international connections and bargaining tools as well as top notch combat ability and incredible physical power with no grotesque backlashes in his appearance aside from intimidating demonic eyes, Wesker is truly powerful. With the rivalry between Chris Redfield still burning and his much broader playing field and bigger goals, there is no doubt that these two will cross paths again in the near future.
